Below is some information regarding cosmetic injectables for educational purpose.

Anti-wrinkle injections are a type of cosmetic injectable neuro-modulator, the injections are made of Clostridium botulinum, a toxin that temporarily reduces movement in the local muscles. Anti wrinkle injections can reduce the appearance of expression lines, smile lines, bunny lines, facial wrinkles such as; crow's feet, laugh lines, frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and chin dimpling. Cosmetic injectables for wrinkles are generally a safe procedure, however, like all treatments they carry potential side effects. Some adverse effects post-treatment include: Swelling, Bruising, Discomfort, Headaches and Muscle weakness. The effects of botulinum toxin injections can last from 3 to 4 months. Some patients require more regular “top ups” through the year, to produce their desired results.

Dermal fillers are an injectable, cosmetic treatment used to;

  • Replenish lost facial volume.
  • Shape and contour the face.
  • Smooth transitions or folds in the face.
  • Stimulate new collagen production.

There are temporary and permanent dermal fillers, however the most common type being temporary hyaluronic acid fillers, reversible with the enzyme hyaluronidase. Hyaluronic acid fillers are widely accepted to have a longevity of 6 to 18 months in the face. The most commonly used dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, of which many brands are available. Hyaluronic acid is found naturally in our bodies; however, in dermal fillers, the hyaluronic acid chains are chemically cross-linked, giving it a gel-like consistency. The amount of cross-linking determines the gel’s firmness and longevity. Thicker fillers have greater cross-linking and are typically firmer, placed deeper in the face, and are used to volumise. Finer fillers with less cross-linking are generally softer and smoother, can be placed more superficially than thicker fillers, and are used for areas where the skin is finer. Areas we treat typically with dermal filler are but not subjected to; Lips, cheeks, chin, marionette lines, oral commissures, and the peri-oral area.

Both anti-wrinkle and dermal fillers are a cosmetic procedure, which will augment the features of the face and should be a procedure that is considered thoughtfully. If you would like further information, please don't hesitate to contact Jamie our qualified Registered Nurse for more information.
